Mel Tillis

“What one thing (person, event, belief, etc.) do you feel has been the

primary influence in bringing you to this point in your life?”

“Listening to the radio (WSM) and the Grand Ole Opry as a child made me want to sing and be like the singers and stars of the Grand Ole Opry.  Especially, Red Foley, and being a stutterer gave me the ‘want to’ really bad.  And with a lot of work and dedication, it all fell in place for me.”

From information presented in his biography on the Mel Tillis website: Among his many achievements, award-winning country music legend, Mel Tillis, was inducted into the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and named Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the year in 1976, won Comedian of the Year for six years, and was named the Songwriter of the Decade for two decades by Broadcast Music, Inc.  In 2001, he also received the Golden Voice Entertainer Award and the Golden R.O.P.E.
